OrganisationYear 1 (M1)The M1 year is organized independently by each partner institution. Year 2 (M2)M2 begins with a first semester dedicated to specialisation by way of level 2 advanced modules. The second semester is devoted to an introductory research internship with a French or foreign laboratory. MPRI and ECTS creditsStudents must customarily achieve 120 ECTS credits in order to be awarded the MPRI. The ECTS credits may be achieved by taking modules and doing internships, in accordance with the following rules:
Level 1 modules are taught over the course of a semester and represent 75 student-hours (typically 50 contact hours and 25 hours of private study).
6 credits Level 2 modules are taught over the course of a semester and represent 75 student-hours (typically 50 contact hours and 25 hours of private study). 3 credits Level 2 modules are taught either 1.5 h/week during the whole semester or else 2.5 or 3h/week during half a semester.
Students taking modules in a European partner university will be awarded ECTS credits for successfully completed modules, as determined by the MPRI's Studies Committee, which will take into account the number of ECTS credits awarded by the university concerned. Students doing an introductory research internship will be awarded 30 ECTS credits, subject to the approval of a written report and of a viva voce examination by a board of examiners set up by the MPRI's Studies Committee.
Award of the ECTS credits is subject to approval of a written report and of a viva voce examination by a board of examiners set up by the MPRI's Studies Committee.
It is possible to attend level 1 or level 2 lectures from other masters and get credits for these modules. Including such external modules in the curriculum must be submitted beforehand to the MPRI's Studies Committee, In case of approval, the MPRI's Studies Committee assigns to such modules an amount of credits, that will be retained for the MPRI, taking into account the credits allocated to the modules in their home master. A non-exhaustive list of masters from which such credits can be taken is given in the list of some masters in the Paris area.
Students may get credits for level 1 modules during the second year of the master, provided they did not get credits for similar modules during the first year (this is evaluated by the Studies Committee).
These students are automatically granted 60 ECTS for the first year of studies.
